Legia Warszawa are a step nearer to becoming the first Polish team since 1996/97 to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage after edging through to the play-offs on away goals against Molde FK on Wednesday. Defenders Bartosz Bereszyński and Jakub Wawrzyniak conceded the goalless third qualifying round second leg was not without concern, particularly in a frantic finale, but Molde set the blame for defeat squarely on last week's profligacy.
Bartosz Bereszyński, Legia defender
We were better for the large part of the second leg. In the last few minutes Molde attacked fiercely because they knew they had nothing to lose. We played some good stuff in the first half and Molde weren't able to create clear chances. Their first real threatening efforts came right at the end of the game.
We played efficiently and our style was easy on the eye. We were much better than Molde. We played as we planned in both matches. We got a very good result in Molde [drawing 1-1] and we knew the crucial thing was not to concede in the second leg. That is why we were mainly focused on defence, not that we played for the goalless draw.
I know the draw is on Friday but I don't know what our plans are: we may follow it live or may already be on the way to our league match. We will have our fingers crossed that the draw is good to us. I am pretty sure that regardless of who we play, we are good enough to beat any side.
Jakub Wawrzyniak, Legia defender
We had a big advantage, because Molde's biggest star, the coach [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer], was not able to play! It was very tough game for us and a little bit nervous in the dying seconds, but we got through. Now we can relax and wait for Friday's draw. We know we will be drawn against a theoretically stronger team than us, but that can help as Legia can play even better without pressure.
Martin Linnes, Molde defender
I think we played OK, we didn't allow Legia to create big chances, just a few half ones. We controlled the situation on the field and just waited for our moment in front of goal. Unfortunately, we were not able to convert. Of course, we are very disappointed right now: we should have won our home game by couple of goals and then the second leg would be totally different.
Daniel Chima, Molde forward
I think what really happened is that we missed our chances at home so we had to show something here. We did not take advantage of the many opportunities we had at home and we got affected by this.
