Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC completed a comfortable 4-1 aggregate victory over ETO FC Győr as goals from Tal Ben Haim and Eran Zahavi secured a 2-1 success in the second leg of this UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie.

Paulo Sousa's team are bidding to take their club into the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time since 2004/05, although they will next face a tough-looking tie against FC Basel 1893 – whose coach Murat Yakin watched on from the stands – in the third qualifying round, with the first leg coming in Switzerland next week.

Ben Haim effectively killed off the visitors' comeback hopes by making it 3-0 on aggregate after 25 minutes in intense heat at Bloomfield Stadium, chasing down a long ball from Maharan Radi and outpacing Marko Dinjar before rolling it into the net. But for goalkeeper Luboš Kamenár, who saved from Ben Haim and Radi either side of the opener, Maccabi Tel-Aviv would have been out of sight by half-time.

However, the break brought scant relief for Győr. Sheran Yeini headed against the woodwork within seven minutes of the restart, Kamenár made another fine block to deny Gal Alberman, and Ben Haim managed to miss the target from three metres before Zahavi got a head to Omri Altman's cross for 2-0. The only disappointment for the hosts was that they failed to keep a clean sheet, substitute Leandro Martínez pouncing on an error by goalkeeper Juan Pablo late on.
