Former Portugal midfielder Paulo Sousa has been appointed the new coach of Israel's Premier League champions Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC.
The Yellows, who booked their place in the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League by capturing a 19th Israeli championship, have filled the post vacated when Oscar García stood down last month after a solitary season at the helm.
"I would like to thank this wonderful club and the people in charge who have entrusted me with this opportunity," said Sousa, who left high-flying Hungarian side Videoton FC in January following an 18-month stint.
"I am happy Paulo is joining us at Maccabi and I'm positive he can take this club to the heights that we want," added Tel-Aviv general manager Jordi Cruyff. The 42-year-old former SL Benfica, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund player has previous coaching experience with Queens Park Rangers FC, Swansea City AFC and Leicester City FC.
His new charges will begin their UEFA Champions League campaign in July's second qualifying round.
