Manchester City tie up Navas transfer

Manchester City FC have completed the signing of Spain winger Jesús Navas from Sevilla FC.

The Premier League runners-up have not disclosed the transfer fee or length of contract penned by the 27-year-old, but reports say the Citizens have given the player a four-year deal after agreeing to pay the Liga club an initial €17.5m.

Navas completed the formalities of the move, which has been in place for over a week, in New York where he is with the Spain squad preparing to face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly as part of their FIFA Confederations Cup warm-up plans.

Speaking to the City website, Navas said: "I'm very happy with the opportunity and the decision. The Premier League is a competition where the football is very fast and it will suit the way I play. I'm really looking forward to it."

Navas, who joined Sevilla aged 15, leaves his local side after nine full seasons as a first-team player, during which he made 393 appearances and scored 34 goals in all competitions.

He was a key component of Juande Ramos's team that lifted the UEFA Cup in 2006 and 2007, starting the finals against Middlesbrough FC and RCD Espanyol, and also picked up a UEFA Super Cup and two Copa del Rey winners' medals at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Navas was also a member of the Spain squad that triumphed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2012. The 24-cap international is City's second acquisition of the summer following the capture last week of Fernandinho from FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
