FC Bayern München's victory in the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley has helped Germany move clear in fourth place in the all-time list of successes.
Spain remain out in front with 13 European Cup triumphs – and have been runners-up a further nine times – one more than both Italy and England, who have 12 wins each from 26 and 19 final appearances respectively. Bayern's coronation at the expense of domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund means Germany have seven victories in the competition, having also finished runners-up on ten occasions.
The Bundesliga had previously been level with the Dutch Eredivisie, which boasts six triumphs from eight finals. Portugal (four wins, five runners-up) are the only other nation to have more than one European Cup to their name. France, Scotland, Romania and Serbia all have a single success.
