"Real Madrid had no idea how to deal with us," said Robert Lewandowski after his four goals for Borussia Dortmund, Neven Subotić adding: "How we played makes it fair."

Robert Lewandowski was buzzing after hitting all four goals in Borussia Dortmund's comprehensive 4-1 first-leg victory over Real Madrid CF, a result which capped a historic couple of days for Germany in the UEFA Champions League. On an "almost perfect" night for the Bundesliga outfit, the Poland front man, who became the first player to score four in a semi-final match in the history of the competition, told UEFA.com it was nonetheless too early to write off Madrid, who Mats Hummels is expecting to throw everything at BVB in next Tuesday's return.

Robert Lewandowski, Dortmund forward
It was almost perfect. Obviously I'm delighted because we won 4-1 and it was an outstanding performance, but we're not in the final yet. We've made great strides tonight, but we need to be alert from the very first minute in Madrid because they're still very dangerous.

We're a good team and we're not afraid of Real Madrid, but we're going to have to play very well over there. As I said, we're not in the final yet and we need to make sure we perform. They want to reach the final too.

The atmosphere was incredible throughout the match. We played really well in the second half and Real Madrid had no idea how to deal with us. We scored three goals and played unbelievably well.

Real are going to be dangerous in Madrid so we need to stay focused. I'm not thinking about the final yet because it's too early for that. If we perform well in Madrid, then we can start talking about that.

Mats Hummels, Dortmund defender
I think we can be tremendously proud of the team's performance tonight. The way we played was a measure of the players and I'm all the more delighted at how the team reacted to my mistake [for Madrid's equaliser]. The way we dealt with it and what we showed subsequently was fantastic.

It's a superb result, obviously, but Real Madrid are even stronger at home. They're going to come at us for 90 minutes and we're going to have to defend against that. It's going to be the most difficult match of our careers, but if we can survive that test, we can all be very proud and that is, of course, our aim.

We're in a great position now, but to say we've got one foot in the final is way over the top. Bayern are sure to complete the job and we hope to do the same.

Neven Subotić, Dortmund defender
I think the way we played makes it a fair result. We created a lot of chances and defended well. We can't get too carried away because it's only half-time in the tie. We have to go to Madrid and we know from experience that they're going to be a lot stronger than they were today.

Before [Hummels's mistake] I didn't win my challenge with [Luka] Modrić, so I'm also liable for [Cristiano Ronaldo's] goal. The rule here is, if anybody makes a mistake it's the team's mistake and not the individual's. It's the same with the four goals we scored. Lewandowski didn't score four, the team did.

I was surprised by the end result. I expected Madrid to come at us more, but they were relatively defensive. They didn't really play their normal game. They're obviously hoping to score a few more in Madrid and were probably hoping to score here on the counterattack, but we defended well, scored our goals and it didn't go their way, it went ours.
