Mourinho and Ferguson agree tie is 50-50

I am not surprised by the result or the match. It was what I expected. It is open, very open, for the second leg. I think it will go down to the final minute. For them it was very tactical, but not for us. They changed the way they play, I think, to have 11 men behind the ball and they did not put a foot in our half in the second half. They were just waiting for a set piece or a counterattack. They defended well. The result leaves it open and if you ask me for a percentage, I will say, like I said before, it is 50-50. They don't have an advantage from their away goal, we can score more than one goal in the second leg.

They had two big chances in the second half, but that is out of context as we were chasing the game and they were sitting back and waiting. They did it well. I think my players gave everything. It was difficult as we started strongly, we had a big chance when we hit the post, and then the first time they go into our half they score from nothing, and that is a difficult situation for the players. Now it is time to go to Old Trafford. One-all is not a bad result and we can score more than one goal there.

I like to play the first game at home because when you play the first game away you can have a tendency to be unhappy with certain scores. When you play the second game away you know how you need to approach the game without thinking too much. When we get to Old Trafford we know what we need to do. We need to score, and if we score we'll be ahead. It is very easy to understand. We could have scored more goals, we could have won, but they could have won as well. At the end of the day, this is the score. We are happy, and see you in three weeks.

There was a lot of incident in the match, chances at both ends. David de Gea has made three or four good saves, but we missed three or four good chances ourselves and the keeper made a great save in the last minute for them, and we had Robin van Persie hit the bar.

We've made great chances. The disappointing thing is we sat off them too much in the first half. They had a lot of play around our box, and that is not healthy. We changed it in the second half, pushing Danny Welbeck further forward, and that made a great difference. We had a lot of good chances and played some good attacking football at times. They had more possession, but you expect that at a team like this, playing at home. We dug in and got the result to take back to Old Trafford and it gives us a great chance.

[Cristiano] Ronaldo, what a header, unbelievable. The spring, how he held himself in the air, the great power in the header. Apart from that I thought we contained him very well. It was difficult for him playing against us, I think there were a lot of emotions for him. He is a big threat, when he gets the ball you are praying more than anything. Ronaldo is sitting in our dressing room at the moment, talking to the lads. I'm proud to see how he's flourished.

It is very open, we know they are going to be tremendous on the counterattack in the second leg. We've got a big job on our hands but it is definitely in our grasp. Before the game we would have taken 1-1, without question. This is a difficult place to come to and their home record is outstanding. I think it is 50-50. It could go either way, it really depends on who scores the first goal. I think the team that scores the first goal will have a great chance.
