Goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu described Paris Saint-Germain FC's triumphant Group A campaign as "a superb performance" after helping Carlo Ancelotti's team surge to the section's summit with a 2-1 win against FC Porto, while Jérémy Ménez is full of confidence ahead of the knockout phase. Though the Portuguese champions also progress to the last 16, Lucho González expressed disappointment at missing out on top spot. "It was our objective," said the Porto captain, whose side will now face a group winner in the last 16.
Jérémy Ménez, PSG forward
I tried to give everything tonight because we have not played well in the last two weeks and we needed to turn in a strong team performance. We all approached the game in the right spirit and made a very positive start. We know that when everyone plays like that we are capable of doing really well. Even after they equalised we kept on playing our football, which shows we were in the right frame of mind.
You always want to go as far as possible in a competition like this, but we will see who we get in the draw. I do not have a preference; the most important thing is that, whoever we get, we do not underestimate them.
Salvatore Sirigu, PSG goalkeeper
We are happy to be top and we are happy with the way we played. Getting 15 points and winning nearly every game is a superb performance. It is definitely important for our confidence. We are the same team in Ligue 1 as in the UEFA Champions League. I do not think we have two different faces. It is just that our results in the two competitions are different at the moment.
Lucho González, Porto midfielder
It is disappointing to miss out on first place as it was our objective, but the most important thing was to qualify. We have done that so now we can look forward to the draw. We know PSG are a very good team with several excellent players. They played well and got the result they needed. It was nice to come back to France. I have played at the Parc des Princes twice now, winning once and losing once.
João Moutinho, Porto midfielder
We have to take positives from this because even though we lost the game and did not finish top of the group, we played well and created chances. We reacted positively to going behind, hitting back very quickly, and I thought we played well at 2-1 too, but we did not manage to get a second equaliser. But in any case we are through to the next round and now we need to focus on winning our next few games.
