Juventus, Celtic and Galatasaray go through

Chelsea FC scored six but became the first UEFA Champions League holders to exit at the group stage as Juventus, Celtic FC and Galatasaray AŞ completed the round of 16 lineup.

Juventus, Celtic FC and Galatasaray AŞ filled the final three places in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 as the group stage reached a conclusion on Wednesday.

Thirteen berths were already filled for the last-16 draw, which will take place in Nyon at 11.30CET on 20 December. Celtic and Galatasaray finished as group runners-up on Wednesday and will therefore be at home in their round of 16 first legs on 12/13 and 19/20 February. Juventus, meanwhile, ended up among the section winners who will play home return legs on 5/6 and 12/13 March. No team can play a club from their group or any side from the same association.

Wednesday round-up
Chelsea FC became the first UEFA Champions League holders to exit the competition at the group stage despite a 6-1 home victory against FC Nordsjælland. They needed Juventus to lose at FC Shakhtar Donetsk to go through from second place in Group E, but the Bianconeri won 1-0 and therefore progress as winners ahead of the Ukrainian side.

In Group F, FC Bayern München, already qualified along with Valencia CF, wrapped up top spot courtesy of a 4-1 success at home to FC BATE Borisov. Celtic rubber-stamped their ticket after beating FC Spartak Moskva 2-1 in Glasgow, Kris Commons scoring the decisive goal from the penalty spot with nine minutes left. It means they finish second in Group G behind FC Barcelona, who were held to a goalless Camp Nou draw by SL Benfica.

Manchester United FC had secured first place in Group H with two games to spare yet concluded their campaign with a second successive defeat, 1-0 at home to CFR 1907 Cluj. It was not enough for the Romanian team, however, who came in third on head-to-head record behind Galatasaray, 2-1 victors at SC Braga thanks to Aydın Yılmaz's 78th-minute goal.
