Striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has committed himself to FC Schalke 04 for another two years, extending his contract with the UEFA Champions League contenders until summer 2015.

The Dutch international's current deal was due to expire at the end of the season, but, following talks, he has agreed to prolong his stay with the Gelsenkirchen outfit. "I have thought long and hard about this decision and I am grateful that the people in charge at FC Schalke 04 gave me the time to do this," explained the 29-year-old. "Now I have made the decision which felt best to me."

Huntelaar joined Schalke in summer 2010 following spells with AFC Ajax, Real Madrid CF and AC Milan, and he finished top scorer in the Bundesliga last term with 29 goals. This season, he has registered 11 times in all competitions, including four goals in the UEFA Champions League as the Königsblauen topped Group B to set up a round of16 meeting with Galatasaray AŞ.

"Originally, we had planned to sit down next month to finish the talks we'd started over the last few months," added Schalke's sporting director Horst Heldt. "I am very happy that Klaas-Jan has shown a clear sign of intent for the rest of the season."
