John van den Brom encouraged RSC Anderlecht to be "especially proud" of their victory over FC Zenit St Petersburg, with Luciano Spalletti ruing a lack of teeth in attack.

Of course I am proud of my players as we have continued with our progress from the domestic league. Everyone played well, but obviously it is lovely to see how those young lads [Massimo Bruno and Dennis Praet] ran themselves into the ground. I really enjoyed watching them. It was a good team performance and we played dominant football, capped by a beautiful goal. After that we showed the mentality to win.

We can be especially proud of the way we won this match. Finally we have been able to reward ourselves in a match which is of importance – that is the beautiful thing about it.

Luciano Spalletti, Zenit coach
We did not perform to our best. In the first half we were choosing the wrong time to press the opponents in defence. We were too slow and allowed our opponents to receive the ball between our defence and midfield. That caused us many problems.

After the break we pressed more and played better, but in attack when we were near the box we did not have enough quality and we didn't score. We tried our best but were unable to create a good chance. We are in a tough position in the group now, but taking into account the result in Milan [a 1-1 draw with Málaga], we still have a chance. If we win the last two matches we might still qualify.
