Müller keen to move on from Bayern final losses

Thomas Müller told UEFA.com that FC Bayern München "live for the future" and will not be held back in Europe this season by the memories of their two recent final defeats.

Though Thomas Müller's age has yet to overtake the number on the back of his shirt, 25, the FC Bayern München forward already has enough memories in the UEFA Champions League to last a lifetime.

Some have been positive – such as marking his competition debut against Sporting Clube de Portugal in 2009 with a goal, and registering twice on his first European start five months later at Maccabi Haifa FC – while others, notably losing the finals of 2010 and 2012, are ones the 23-year-old would like to forget.

For someone born in Bavaria and a product of the Bayern academy, those defeats were particularly hard to stomach. The German international, who opened the scoring against Chelsea FC in last season's final at the Fußball Arena München, told UEFA.com: "You have to forget about them. We live for the future. Everything that happened in the past can't be changed and it doesn't make any sense to think about what happened last season."

Stressing there is "nothing positive" to take from those setbacks, Müller is using disappointment to fuel his quest to make it third time lucky. Bayern are joint-top of Group F after two wins in their first three outings and host LOSC Lille next Wednesday, when another victory against the French club would go a long way to securing qualification for the knockout stage.

"There's still a great objective in my head, but you can see how important and explosive the matches become, starting from the last 16, then the quarter-finals and so on," said Müller, scorer of the only goal against LOSC last time out. "It's just great fun to play at such a top European level."
