Goalscorer Arturo Vidal told UEFA.com that Juventus's fans had given them a massive lift after the 3-0 win against Chelsea FC left the Turin side needing just a point at FC Shakhtar Donetsk on matchday six to reach the round of 16. Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Čech said the defeat was a "massive blow" for the reigning European champions, who are now third in Group E, adding: "I hope that destiny will be kind to us."

Arturo Vidal, Juventus midfielder
It was the perfect night – we played an incredible match against a great side like Chelsea and now we are very happy. We just have to keep on like this until the end. When our fans support us like they did tonight our hearts become bigger on the pitch. It's so important to have this kind of support from our fans in this stadium.

We were eager to win this game. It was so important so that we could continue to grow as a team. I scored against Chelsea in London too, but what counts most is that this time we won and we played a great game against a very strong side like Chelsea. It's not over yet – there is another match – but if we play as well as we did tonight it will be an interesting game for us against Shakthar.

Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus defender
There was a great atmosphere and we were close to perfection on the pitch – we deserved this great victory. Chelsea did not have out-and-out strikers but they still had Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata up front, so they were very dangerous. The fact they played like they did is, for me, mostly because of our great performance. With respect, we tried to shackle their best players and expose their weaknesses with quick one-twos and attacks from midfield, as they have a very strong defence physically but had problems when we played the ball quickly on the ground. Fortunately we managed to play this great game tonight.

Now we need an even better performance against Shakthar, because they are playing great football and are deservedly top of the group. We will have to go there and pick up points, so as not to allow the great work we did tonight to go to waste. With a bit of luck in previous games, we could have been celebrating qualifying tonight, but now we go to Donetsk knowing we have the chance to finish first in the group.

Petr Čech, Chelsea goalkeeper
I hope destiny will be kind to us in terms of the result in Donetsk but this was a massive blow because we had our destiny in our hands and we gave it away. In a competition of this quality, if you give any team 15 shots on target, then you are not going to get a clean sheet. We need to be sure that we control the defensive part of the game better than we are doing because we seem to be giving too much space to our opponents every time we lose the ball.

The deciding moment of this game was their first goal because before that they had some chances, but we rode out that period with good spirit and created two great chances ourselves on the counter. We should have scored and if we had, I think it would have been a different story. Then we were very unlucky because their first goal was a lucky deflection and the second one the same. However, I have to say they played very well – they deserved their goals. We were second best but that is football. We just need to find a way out of this situation.
