Málaga CF only returned to the Spanish top flight in 2008 but they have now earned a debut in the UEFA Champions League and their bow was a spectacular one – defeating FC Zenit St Petersburg 3-0.
On Wednesday they aim for a second Group C win at RSC Anderlecht and there is experience at the helm in the shape of Manuel Pellegrini, who led Villarreal CF to the 2005/06 semi-finals. He talks to UEFA.com about preparing Málaga for the step up, while local boy Jesús Gámez sums up his excitement.
"It was something very far away, something you watched on television," said the defender. "Right now we are experiencing it in reality and it was something very beautiful to play our first game."
