I'm happy with the result and with our display. The only thing that displeased me was the number of chances we failed to convert – we were probably too hasty in front of goal. The team are going through a period where we are having trouble profiting from our creativity in attack. We tend to make the wrong decisions on the pitch.
We have to continue winning. It is good we collected the three points but we have to move forward. The team were in good shape tonight – we've been improving from game to game. We have several penalty takers and the players on the pitch know best who can take it and I believe that is right. I get involved only if they can't agree among themselves.
We expected a tough game because we felt the pressure to win at all costs. The pitch was heavy and the opposition were physically strong, so we knew the match would not be easy. We didn't allow them many chances, attacked pretty well ourselves and played intelligently overall. We deserved to win.
John van den Brom, Anderlecht coach
I am extremely proud of my team and how they played tonight. Our disappointment is huge because we deserved more than this, but we can be satisfied about tonight. We played with good organisation, were tactically strong and gave few [chances] away. After the final whistle everyone was disappointed in the dressing room, but this match gives us hope.
We hope to play an important role in the Champions League in the future. I therefore have congratulated the team for their performance, although I realise we travel home with no points. This match gives us faith and a boost for the future. We must really believe in it. That is maybe the most important thing that we learned tonight. We can compete with the other teams.
