Arsenal and Olympiacos aim to improve

Neither Arsenal FC nor Olympiacos FC will lack for motivation when they meet in north London with Arsène Wenger, who is serving the second of his three-match touchline ban, seeking a response after the English club's unbeaten start to the season ended at the weekend. Arsenal do have the consolation of a matchday one victory in Group B, however; Olympiacos have no such luxury and coach Leonardo Jardim acknowledges the Greek title holders are under pressure.

The players are still down [after Saturday's loss to Chelsea FC] but we have a Champions League game ahead of us. We play at home and want to put things right. There are lots of positives to take – what was not good in the last game was easy to correct. It is a long championship, but we have to make sure the Champions League is long as well.

Olympiacos already have their backs to the wall because they lost at home [on matchday one] – in the Champions League it is very difficult when you lose at home. They will come out highly motivated and will have to give everything if they're to have a chance to go through.

I am impressed by the mentality of my team, but mentality is also how you respond to disappointment and I'm confident we will – that's what we want to show.

In the Champions League it's simple – you need one away win and three home wins. We've done the first part of the job. Now the second part is to be strong at home. It's a big advantage, but only if you are efficient at home. That's what is as stake against Olympiacos.

Mikel Arteta is doubtful with an ankle injury, while Wojciech Szczęsny (ankle) and Abou Diaby (thigh) are still a fortnight away from full fitness. Jack Wilshere is also targeting matchday three after making his first outing in 14 months for Arsenal reserves on Monday.

It will be particularly hard – Arsenal at home are very strong – but you can't give up on a game before you even start it. We will try to enjoy the game and give a good account of ourselves. Arsenal are a particularly difficult team, very technical, and we will try to face them by being very compact. That's why we try to be very united – all the players together to decrease the chances of our opponents, just like we played against Schalke.

There is definitely a possibility of new young talent playing. We have a number of players who have the potential, but I'm not willing to announce the team now. We'll work on the final technical touches, then decide.

Like all the other teams participating in the Champions League, Olympiacos want to win every game, but there is some pressure and we do have our backs against the wall. The most important game is the next one – we have problems because we have a number of injuries. But we will make sure that all the players that feature will do their best for the club, and will do their best to win. At Schalke we had several opportunities to win. We have to work out how to win and how to lose.
