Pereira pleased with Porto's strong start

"An excellent start" was Vítor Pereira's assessment of his FC Porto team's 2-0 victory away to GNK Dinamo Zagreb, whose coach Ante Čačić sounded magnanimous in defeat.

It's a pity we conceded just before half-time. In the second half we looked to be closer to getting an equaliser than Porto were to scoring a second goal. This loss is not going to destroy us because my team were not crushed – we were playing against a very good side. They are very powerful in terms of individual quality: they really play well.

Porto deserved to win this match, we were up against a better team. We made too many poor passes in the middle of the pitch. Ours is still a long way from being one of the strongest leagues in Europe. I tried to refresh the team with some new players and looked to take more risks, and it was partly down to that that we conceded the second goal.

Vítor Pereira, Porto coach
We won away from home and that's an excellent start. We deserved to win – we were the better side throughout the match and we should have scored the second goal earlier, because we were dominating and creating chances. We need to keep up this standard in the upcoming matches.
