Valencia CF have been dealt a blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener away to FC Bayern München on 19 September with the news that attacker Pablo Piatti will miss most of the tournament's group stage with a broken forearm.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury during a team training session on Friday before being immediately rushed to hospital, where he underwent surgery to repair the damaged right arm. The former Club Estudiantes LP and UD Almería winger – whose only appearance for Valencia this term came as a substitute in the team's 1-1 Liga draw away to Real Madrid CF – now faces up to ten weeks on the sidelines, ruling him out of the forthcoming encounter in Munich and future fixtures against LOSC Lille and FC BATE Borisov in October and November.
