Fenerbahçe SK have signed Turkey midfielder Mehmet Topal from Valencia CF for a reported €4.5m fee, agreeing a four-year deal with his new club.

Mehmet Topal, 26, is the Yellow Canaries’ third big signing of the summer, following the arrivals of winger Dirk Kuyt from Liverpool FC and left-back Hasan Ali Kaldırım from Kayserispor. Capped 27 times, Mehmet Topal started his career at local club Malatya Belediyespor, turned professional at Dardanelspor AŞ in 2002 and hit the big time in a four-year spell at Galatasaray AŞ from 2006, scoring twice in 82 league games and making his international debut in February 2008.

The hard-working midfielder played at UEFA EURO 2008, and moved to Valencia in May 2010, playing in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League with the Spanish side, and making 43 domestic league appearances. Last season's Turkish league runners-up, Fenerbahçe are set to start their UEFA Champions League campaign in the third qualifying round.
