As host city of both the men's and women's UEFA Champions League finals, Munich has received in return a mini-pitch donated by UEFA which will provide a legacy for years to come, allowing youngsters to play in a safe environment.
This gift continues a tradition which first started prior to the 2010 final in Madrid and was welcomed by Paul Breitner, the UEFA Champions League final ambassador. "What we experienced at the inauguration of the mini-pitch shows UEFA is not just interested in staging big events," said the former German international.
"UEFA also manages the perfect balancing act between pure business, and taking care of the grassroots, and the youth sector. They promote selectively, and promote in one way or the other their attitude towards kids and youngsters, and try to set up football venues so that football can continue rolling."
