Defender Daniel Van Buyten will remain at FC Bayern München for at least another 12 months after agreeing a new contract with the UEFA Champions League finalists until summer 2013.
The 34-year-old, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of the season, has been out of action with a broken metatarsal since January and is not expected to feature again this term. The Belgian international has been at Bayern since 2006, when he signed from Bundesliga rivals Hamburger SV for €12m. Since then the former Olympique de Marseille man has scored 19 goals in 133 Bundesliga appearances.
"We are very happy that Daniel will play for Bayern next season," said sporting director Christian Nerlinger of a player who has been capped 66 times by his country and scored ten international goals. "We know what he is worth to us. With his qualities and experience he will be an important member of our squad in the future."
Bayern are hoping to win their fifth European club crown when they host Chelsea FC in the UEFA Champions League final at the Fußball Arena München on 19 May.
