It's now very difficult for us after this home loss. There is obviously lots of quality in this Bayern team. They do many things very well and are powerful in attack, they're impressive. We produced some good things. The [first] goal just before the break hurt us because they had failed to create many chances before that, but this is great teams, they need few chances to do you damage.

We still have a chance but it is minimal. When you lose 2-0 at home, it is not the best situation. We have a week to recover and will do our best but Bayern are very good at home. Bayern have more experience, and while they made mistakes in the first half we did not take advantage. After that, they punished us. This is the top level, and we learned that tonight.

Jupp Heynckes, Bayern coach
I told my players before the match that Marseille are a very robust team. The only thing I have to criticise today is that we got five yellow cards; that's much too many in a game we won so comfortably.

The first goal was a very good move. Philipp Lahm wins the ball, then we played it past two or three players in the centre of the pitch. That's what we have done so much better in the few last weeks and why we are so successful at the moment. For the second, [Arjen] Robben played a superb one-two with Thomas Müller. That was something I mentioned at the break, to do more one-twos if the winger gets chance. Arjen did it wonderfully with Thomas, and in front of the goal he has the composure to score.

We cannot talk about Real Madrid yet, there is still the second leg in Munich to come. Nevertheless I have to say that we played with a lot of confidence tonight. It is not easy in Marseille – plenty of other teams will tell you that – so it was important that we didn't concede, that Marseille did not get a boost. With a few exceptions we did that very well.

It would be a superb, superb situation if we would meet Real Madrid in the semi-finals, because I still have many friends in Madrid [from his time as coach in 1997/98]. I know Spanish football very well, particularly the Madrid team, and I know there would be no favourites in such a tie. We would be ready to take the battle to them.
