UEFA Champions League contenders SL Benfica have signed former Sporting Clube de Portugal forward Yannick Djaló on a four-and-a-half-year deal, with the 25-year-old having been out of contract since the summer.
Capped once by Portugal, Guinea-Bissau-born Djaló has committed to the Eagles until the end of the 2015/16 season. He had been without a club since his deal at Sporting expired in the summer, having also seen a move to French side OGC Nice fall through. He scored 23 goals in 98 Liga games for Sporting between 2006 and 2011, registering four more times in 34 UEFA club competition appearances.
Benfica, who visit FC Zenit St Petersburg in the first leg of their round of 16 tie on 15 February, have also announced that midfielder cum full-back Ruben Amorim has agreed a contract extension. However, although the 27-year-old Portuguese international is now tied to the Lisbon outfit until summer 2014, he has been loaned to Liga rivals SC Braga for the next 18 months, until the close of the 2012/13 campaign.
