Benfica meet Jesus' objective

SL Benfica coach Jorge Jesus was thrilled to finish Group C above FC Basel 1893 and Manchester United FC after a 1-0 defeat of point-less FC Oţelul Galaţi that Dorinel Munteanu felt was undeserved.

Jorge Jesus, Benfica coach
Our objective was to win the group. Group C had three great teams and when a team like Benfica finish in first place it is something to highlight. We are having a strong European campaign. It is not easy to win in this competition and we did not lose a match. I have to thank our supporters who helped us a lot once again when we had to play with ten men.

We do not care about our opponents in the last 16. The draw will define it, although we know Real Madrid and Barcelona are the stronger teams. [About being the Benfica coach with the most European victories - 21] It means that our work has been very good.

Dorinel Munteanu, Oţelul coach
We started the match badly, we conceded the goal, but afterwards, especially in the second half, we put our opponents under pressure and tried to score. Again we did not manage to do that. Anyway, once again we did not deserve to lose and I say that we played better than Benfica.

I feel very sad and terribly frustrated and I would say that the feeling which I have is very, very strange. We did not have the necessary experience for the UEFA Champions League, but all our experience after these six matches will be very important for us in the future.
