Rudi Garcia, Lille coach
It is a disappointment. I am first of all disappointed for my players. We lacked a little bit of luck to get the goal which would have sent us through. Four shots on target out of 22 attempts is not enough. There was no particular pressure. We had a good first half but we failed to repeat that in the second. I am surprised by Trabzon's choice to sit back all game. With this result, they did not go through either. I cannot blame my players. They did everything they could.
I am a part of a collective failure. Ultimately, if we were not able to overcome Trabzonspor in a match like this then we cannot expect to be part of the top 16 in Europe. Initially we were the French team in the best position to go through but in the end we are the only ones to fall. I congratulate Marseille and Lyon for their performances. It is important for French football that they have qualified.
Şenol Güneş, Trabzonspor coach
We will continue in the Europa League and our team will be better prepared for that competition. Before the last matchday the teams who would go into the knockout round were still undecided. Arguably the one with the least chance, CSKA, went through. We got four points from the group leaders and still could not go through. Lille snatched four points from CSKA but they were eliminated. Football is like that. Any outcome should be expected.
Regarding qualification for Europa League, I am both happy and sad. We thought that a draw would be enough for us. We just lost the chance to continue in the competition five minutes from time and that makes us upset. The fatigue of some players was reflected on the pitch tonight.
