GNK Dinamo Zagreb have parted company with coach Krunoslav Jurčić after bowing out of the UEFA Champions League with the club's heaviest-ever defeat.
Already eliminated, Dinamo lost 7-1 at home to Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday having led late in the first half and been level at the interval, meaning they conceded a record 22 goals in Group D and finished without a point. Dinamo immediately decided to terminate the 42-year-old Jurčić's contract, having appointed him for his second spell in charge in May. They will search for a replacement during the winter break, which runs until 18 February. Dinamo hold a six-point lead in their bid for a seventh straight Croatian title.
Dinamo vice-president Zdravko Mamić said: "This match was a very difficult moment for our club and was definitely not the way we wanted to end the season in the Champions League. The executive board asked for an urgent meeting after the game and unanimously it was decided that the club would cancel the contract with Krunoslav Jurčić. I really didn't imagine before the match that we would end it with a coaching change."
