Trabzonspor out to turn the tables on CSKA

Trabzonspor AŞ began their first UEFA Champions League campaign in fine style with four points from their first two games but lost at PFC CSKA Moskva on matchday three and must regroup swiftly for the reverse fixture.

• The Turkish team lost 3-0 in Moscow in the teams' first meeting, Seydou Doumbia scoring either side of a goal from Aleksandrs Cauņa in a game that took CSKA level with their opponents on four points but above them into second place in Group B.

• That was a first setback for Trabzonspor, whose first ever group stage game in the competition produced a dream outcome as Ondřej Čelůstka's late goal secured a famous 1-0 win at 2010 European champions FC Internazionale Milano in San Siro. They followed up with a 1-1 draw at LOSC Lille Métropole secured by Gustavo Colman's second-half penalty.

• CSKA had to recover from a two-goal deficit in both their opening games, drawing 2-2 at Lille on 14 September – Doumbia scoring twice in the final 18 minutes – and rallying from 2-0 down at home to Inter on matchday two. However, the visitors had the last word through substitute Mauro Zárate.

• While Trabzonspor had not faced a Russian team before matchday three, CSKA only have to go back two seasons for their last fixture against Turkish opponents, beating Beşiktaş JK 2-1 home and away in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League group stage.

• Evgeni Aldonin scored for CSKA in stoppage time in Istanbul on 8 December 2009 while Alan Dzagoev notched the opening goal in the matching victory on 30 September.

• The Moscow side's only other UEFA Champions League away game in Turkey ended in a 3-1 defeat at Fenerbahçe SK in the 2007/08 group stage in which Igor Akinfeev played in goal.

• In the 1971/72 European Champion Clubs' Cup first round CSKA drew 1-1 away to Galatasaray AŞ and went through 4-1 on aggregate.

• CSKA, the 2004/05 UEFA Cup winners, reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League on their last participation in 2009/10, their best achievement in the competition. There they faced FC Internazionale Milano, the eventual winners, losing both legs 1-0. In the round of 16 they saw off the challenge of Sevilla FC thanks to a 2-1 win in Spain after the home leg ended 1-1.

• In that season's group stage the Russian club lost 3-1 at VfL Wolfsburg and drew 3-3 at Manchester United FC before winning at Beşiktaş.

• In 12 European Cup home games Trabzonspor have won seven and lost two, scoring 15 goals and conceding nine. In a total of five home games in the UEFA Champions League since 2004/05, including this season's third qualifying round, last season's Turkish Super League runners-up won two games, lost one and drew two.

Team ties
• Róbert Vittek scored Slovakia's equaliser in Moscow against Russia in a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The game, which ended 1-1, was played at the Dynamo Stadium on 4 September 2004.

• Tomáš Necid and Čelůstka played together at SK Slavia Praha.

• Didier Zokora and Doumbia both play for the Ivory Coast.

• Zokora faced CSKA in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League round of 16 while at Sevilla. His team earned a 1-1 draw in Moscow, CSKA winning the second leg 2-1.

• Both Vágner Love and Paulo Henrique spent part of 2010 in Brazil. Love played for CR Flamengo and scored the only goal against Paulo Henrique's SE Palmeiras on 2 June 2010, although Henrique did not feature.

• Marek Sapara faced CSKA in a 2006/07 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round encounter while with MFK Ružomberok. CSKA won 5-0 on aggregate, Love scoring in both games.

• Necid scored both Czech Republic goals in a 2-0 victory against Turkey in a UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying encounter on 5 November 2006. Onur Kıvrak was an unused substitute for Turkey.

• Necid was in the senior Czech team beaten 2-1 by Turkey in a friendly international on 22 May 2010.
