We played very well for 60 to 70 minutes and gave everything we had on the pitch. My players were extremely tired in the last 20 minutes because we played for a long time at a very high tempo. I would have replaced five or six players because many of them were utterly shattered, but I couldn't so we had to battle until the end. A goal could have made our lives very difficult in the final minutes.
I'm happy because the players have understood that our approach must be the same in every game, regardless of the opponents. And I'm very proud because every one of them understood that the team comes first before individual players. Just watch how hard the three forwards are working together. We expend so much energy because we don't have much experience in a competition like this and we're always forced to give everything from the first minute if we want to achieve something.
Juan Carlos Garrido, Villarreal coach
Their two goals came from mistakes and in a demanding match like this that's a deciding factor. We can be proud of the rest of the match because we fought all the time. The fact that we conceded two goals in three minutes can't be used to rate the team's performance. Before their first goal, we were attacking and looking for an away win.
After their two goals, my team had to make an extra effort and get forward to look for goals, but we lacked determination in front of goal. Today we brushed off the fear we had in our first match and we played a good game. It's a great step forward to cast off that fear and trust in our potential. Our goal is not out of reach yet and we're capable of beating all of our rivals.
