Maicon is a major doubt for the start of FC Internazionale Milano's UEFA Champions League campaign after being advised to undergo knee surgery.
The 30-year-old right-back is to have an operation on his right knee in his native Brazil to solve a persistent meniscus problem and is likely to be out of action for over a month. The Brazilian international played through the pain late last season and during the Copa América, but a rehabilitation programme in Milan this summer failed to solve the problem.
He will definitely be sidelined for the Nerazzurri's Serie A opener at home to US Lecce on 28 August and is unlikely to be back when Inter enter the UEFA Champions League group stage in mid-September.
