FC Zenit St Petersburg captain Aleksandr Anyukov has signed a new five-year contract with the Premier-Liga champions.
The right-back's previous deal with Zenit was due to expire this year, but he will now remain at the Petrovsky Stadium until 2016. A graduate of the PFC Krylya Sovetov Samara academy, Anyukov joined Zenit in summer 2005 and has made 229 competitive appearances for the club, scoring ten goals.
The 28-year-old's stay at Zenit has coincided with the most successful period in the club's history. Anyukov has won two national titles, a Russian Cup, a UEFA Cup and a UEFA Super Cup at the St Petersburg outfit; he has also been capped 57 times by his country.
Defending champions Zenit lie second in Russia, five points behind PFC CSKA Moskva after 18 games of the 2011/12 domestic season. Luciano Spalletti's side will kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
