Villarreal CF have signed Colombia defender Cristián Zapata from fellow UEFA Champions League play-off contenders Udinese Calcio for a fee reportedly in the region of €6m.
The 24-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with Villarreal and will come to El Madrigal at the end of quarter-finalist Colombia's campaign at the 2011 Copa América in Argentina. The 15-times capped Zapata scored five goals in 168 Serie A games for Udinese who – like Villarreal – finished fourth in their league to earn a stab at the UEFA Champions League via August's play-offs.
