Manchester City FC have stepped up preparations for their UEFA Champions League bow with the acquisition of French international left-back Gaël Clichy.
Clichy, who had 12 months left on his Arsenal FC contract, underwent a medical in the north-west on Monday morning before putting pen to paper on a four-year deal. The move to Manchester City brings an end to his eight seasons in north London, where he made 187 Premier League appearances. He won the English title in his first campaign before adding the FA Cup the following year.
"I'm really happy to be joining such a great club," said Clichy. "I hope I can add to the quality we already have here because we have a fantastic squad who I believe will continue to get better. I can't wait to get started and I think anything is possible with this team."
The 25-year-old, who has ten France caps, looks set to vie with Wayne Bridge and Aleksandar Kolarov for the left-back berth in Roberto Mancini's team. Mancini guided City to a third-place finish last term, earning a spot in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League group stage; Arsenal finished three points adrift of the Mancunians in fourth position and will enter the play-offs.
