UEFA Champions League hopefuls Olympique de Marseille have signed left-back Jérémy Morel from FC Lorient to fill the void left by Taye Taiwo's departure for AC Milan.
Morel, 27, captained Lorient this season and joins the Ligue 1 runners-up as a free agent on a four-year contract. Born and raised in Lorient, he made 214 league appearances for his hometown team, 29 of them last season when he helped them finish 11th. "This is an achievement but I still have to prove myself," said Morel. "Marseille are among the biggest sides in France."
Morel is the second Lorient player to join OM this summer, following in the footsteps of midfielder Morgan Amalfitano. Marseille will start their UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
