Greek titleholders Olympiacos FC have bolstered their squad for next season's UEFA Champions League campaign by signing experienced goalkeeper Franco Costanzo.

Costanzo, who captained FC Basel 1893 to the 2010/11 Swiss Super League title, will have a three-year deal after moving to Piraeus on a free transfer. The 30-year-old former Argentina and CA River Plate keeper is excited about the prospect of a fresh challenge.

"I'm very happy with my choice and I look forward to competing in the Champions League with Olympiacos," said Costanzo, who will step into the void left by the retirement of Greek international Antonis Nikopolidis. "I hope I will be as successful as he has been at this club."

After starting his career at River Plate, Costanzo became the Buenos Aires side's No1 before landing in Europe in 2005 with Deportivo Alavés. When Alavés were relegated at the end of his first campaign in Spain, Costanzo joined Basel where he made 141 league appearances over the next five seasons. He featured in all six of their UEFA Champions League group stage fixtures last term.
