FC Barcelona striker Bojan Krkić is set to miss the remainder of the club season after suffering ligament damage to his left knee during his side's 3-1 victory against UD Almería on Saturday.

The 20-year-old − who has scored five goals in 25 league appearances for Barça this term − started his team's latest Liga encounter ahead of David Villa but was substituted for the latter 31 minutes into the Camp Nou fixture. Josep Guardiola must now plan for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against FC Shakhtar Donetsk, which Barcelona lead 5-1, without the Spanish international.

With Bojan estimated to be out for up to eight weeks, his participation at this summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship has also been thrown into jeopardy. Spain open their challenge in Denmark with a Group B encounter against England on 12 June followed by games with the Czech Republic and Ukraine.
