Bastos set for knee operation

Olympique Lyonnais hope Michel Bastos will be back "for the last games of the season" after learning that the Brazil midfielder needs surgery on a knee injury sustained on Saturday.

Olympique Lyonnais will approach the last two months of their season without Michel Bastos after announcing the midfielder needs surgery.

Bastos suffered a left knee injury in Saturday's 2-0 victory at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and tests today revealed meniscus damage. He will return to his native Brazil to undergo the operation. "We preferred to move quickly in taking a decision to allow him time to recuperate for the final matches of the season," said Lyon coach Claude Puel.

The French side's bid for a UEFA Champions League quarter-final place concludes at Real Madrid CF on Wednesday, with the sides level at 1-1 after the first leg.
