AC Milan will be deprived of the services of Andrea Pirlo for both legs of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie with Tottenham Hotspur FC after the playmaker damaged knee ligaments in training.
Pirlo, who had been out of action since 20 January having suffered a recurrence of an old thigh injury during a Coppa Italia match against AS Bari, was scheduled to return to the first team this weekend. However, he is now expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks after straining collateral ligaments in his right knee on Friday.
The 31-year-old Italian international, who has played 14 Serie A and five UEFA Champions League matches this season, will miss the home leg against Spurs on 15 February and the trip to north London on 9 March.
