AC Milan have signed Netherlands midfielder Urby Emanuelson from AFC Ajax for an undisclosed fee.
Emanuelson, who was a UEFA European Under-21 Championship winner in 2006 and has been capped 12 times at senior level, is a product of the prestigious Ajax academy. The 24-year-old's contract with the Amsterdam club, for whom he made his debut in 2005, was due to expire in the summer.
"He is the player we needed," said Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani. "He is a left-sided midfielder but can also play at left-back. We could have had him for free in the summer but instead we decided to pay a fee to Ajax to get him immediately."
The Rossoneri face Tottenham Hotspur FC in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on 15 February and 9 March but Emanuelson will not be eligible having already played six UEFA Champions League group matches this term – including two against Milan – as Ajax finished third in their section.
