Louis van Gaal saw cause for optimism as FC Bayern München ended Group E with a 3-0 win against FC Basel 1893, whose boss Thorsten Fink said: "From now on, I'm rooting for Bayern again."

Louis van Gaal showed some optimism and an expert command of German idiom following FC Bayern München's 3-0 UEFA Champions League win against FC Basel 1893, noting that his side were "still dancing at three weddings"; a local expression meaning the Group E winners are still in the hunt for three titles. Visiting boss Thorsten Fink felt the Swiss champions did him proud, and as they move into the UEFA Europa League in 2011, the one-time Bayern midfielder was glad he could get back to supporting his old side again.

Louis van Gaal, Bayern coach
We played as a team today. We've won, and we've scored goals again, which is always the most important thing in football. We weren't in the most difficult group, but we've done the job we had to do. It might have looked easy, but it wasn't. I can only be satisfied; we'd already won the group after five games. We've scored plenty of goals and we've conceded very few; you can't ask for much more than that.

We scored the goals and created lots of chances, but Basel had some good opportunities too; [goalkeeper] Thomas Kraft saved us a few times in the first half. I am satisfied, though. We have got five wins, and not many teams managed that. This win gives us confidence for our next tasks. We are still dancing at three weddings.

Thorsten Fink, Basel coach
I can be proud of my team, because we weren't bad at all today. We had 47% of the possession in the first half, and not many visiting teams manage that here. We had a few good chances, too.

We handed Bayern the opening goal on a plate; they built up a head of steam after that and dominated the match. That's when we saw the difference in class between Bayern and Basel. We can be satisfied with our Champions League campaign this season. It's been terrific, and we'll be back after Christmas in the Europa League. From now on, I'm rooting for Bayern again.
