Both FC Twente coach Michel Preud'homme and Tottenham Hotspur FC's Harry Redknapp had cause for optimism after the clubs played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. The point was enough to guarantee UEFA Europa League football for the Dutch champions, and top spot in Group A for the London side.
Michel Preud'homme, Twente coach
We've learned a lot [from the UEFA Champions League], including the match today, and I hope that we can use that experience both in the Europa League and the Eredivisie. We always want to play beautiful football – I was even congratulated by Harry Redknapp on the fantastic football we played – but sometimes we overdo it.
It's about us finding the right balance. We must play good football but at the same time not give too much away and make things too easy for our opponents. I've congratulated my players for coming back from behind three times against such a good team. That's a positive, but I also told them, again, that we have to learn a lesson from this for the future.
As debutants, we made a good impression. We competed pretty well in all our matches and, apart from one of them, always scored. We just came up a little short in the decisive moments to be able to survive the group stage but in a tough group like this that's not a disgrace. It's nice that we can now continue in the Europa League.
Harry Redknapp, Tottenham manager
At the start of this I said this was a tough group – we've got a team near the top of the Dutch league, Werder Bremen, who are a good side with lots of good players, and we've got the holders, Inter. I think it was the toughest group and we've done well to top it.
You want to win all your games so we wanted to win here, but it's important to finish top of the group and we've done that so I'm proud of the boys. It was good game for the neutral. We've gone for it every game, played with two wide men and two up front and had a go. We've got goals in us and overall I'm delighted.
