FC København clinched the only available place in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on offer as Groups A to D concluded on Tuesday night.
Seven teams from these groups already knew they would enter the last-16 draw on 17 December and København's 3-1 win against Panathinaikos FC resolved the remaining issue, leaving them out of reach of FC Rubin Kazan, who in any case lost 2-0 at FC Barcelona. In three other groups, Tottenham Hotspur FC, FC Schalke 04 and Manchester United FC claimed first place while SL Benfica and Rubin will both enter the UEFA Europa League round of 32 after being confirmed in third in their sections. The remaining four groups, with three round of 16 places undecided, conclude on Wednesday.
