Tottenham Hotspur FC have confirmed that Tom Huddlestone will be out of action for three months with an injury to his right ankle.

The England midfielder missed the 4-2 Premier League win against Blackburn Rovers FC on Saturday and Tottenham subsequently sent him for "consultation with several independent ankle specialists". The upshot is that Huddlestone, 23, requires surgery.

He will therefore sit out Tottenham's final two group stage games – at home to SV Werder Bremen on 24 November and away to FC Twente on 7 December – and is unlikely to be available again until mid-February.

Harry Redknapp's side top Group A after their 3-1 win against holders FC Internazionale Milano on Matchday 4, and will be assured of a place in the round of 16 with victory against Bremen.
