FC Spartak Moskva are likely to be without attacking midfielder Alex for their crucial Matchday 5 home game against Olympique de Marseille, the 28-year-old club captain having suffered a hamstring injury during a league game on Monday.
The Brazilian was taken off 56 minutes into Spartak's 1-1 draw at FC Rubin Kazan, with subsequent tests revealing a new hamstring injury rather than a recurrence of the problem that laid him off for two-and-a-half weeks midway through October. The club's doctors have warned that he will miss a few games, and have prescribed him physiotherapy and rest. He played in three of Spartak's first four Group F games.
Spartak are level on six points with Marseille in the section, and should they overcome the French titleholders on 23 November, they will qualify for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 by virtue of a better head-to-head record in their games against OM.
