MŠK Žilina coach Pavel Hapal admitted that he "expected a tough game but nothing this one-sided" after the Slovakian titleholders were overwhelmed 7-0 by Olympique de Marseille: a record home defeat in the UEFA Champions League. Counterpart Didier Deschamps could have been forgiven some elation, but with his side still third in Group F he is already focusing on a winner-takes-all meeting with FC Spartak Moskva in three weeks.

Pavel Hapal, Žilina coach
I expected a tough game but nothing this one-sided; nothing like this. To be honest I would prefer not to analyse it right now. My team failed in everything on the pitch: I needed more courage, better combinations and an aggressive style. We performed well two weeks ago at Marseille, so we had high hopes of a good result at home too, but this was a completely different match.

Didier Deschamps, Marseille coach
I won't say I expected a result like this, because the media will accuse me of arrogance: I will just say that the most important thing is we won and claimed three points. Winning 7-0 is really not that common, especially in the Champions League, and you never know: general goal difference could decide the group – it gives us an edge.

We made a very good start and it was important we were able to dictate the pace until the points were secure. Now we need to win in Moscow and finish what we started tonight in Zilina.
