Berdyev rues missed Rubin chances

A second 0-0 draw between FC Rubin Kazan and Panathinaikos FC has left both teams struggling in Group D and home coach Kurban Berdyev was particularly frustrated by the result.

FC Rubin Kazan coach Kurban Berdyev believes his side "created enough chances" to defeat Panathinaikos FC in the goalless draw that kept the Russian side only one point ahead of the Greek side at the bottom of UEFA Champions League Group D. Like Berdyev, Panathinaikos coach Nikos Nioplias is not giving up on progress despite their lowly position.

Kurban Berdyev, Rubin coach
We created enough chances and could have scored a goal to win, but unfortunately we were not able to put away any of those opportunities. [Obafemi] Martins and [Gökdeniz] Karadeniz boosted our game significantly after coming on as subs but still could not score.

Carlos Eduardo has a lot of potential and he is getting into peak condition step by step. That is why I am going to give him regular first-team football. Our chances of making the knockouts are theoretical but they are still there and we will fight for them.

Nikos Nioplias, Panathinaikos coach
The draw today was a fair reflection. We played well and have shown that, gradually, we are improving. I think we're still paying the price for losing at home to København; if we had picked up a point from that encounter our situation would be very different.

For some time we have been without several key attacking players, like Sebastian Leto, Sotiris Ninis and Sidney Govou. When everybody is fit we will be able to play to our potential. There are still two matches to go. In football there is no room for miracles, though, only room for plenty of hard effort.
