Arsenal FC manager Arsène Wenger has confirmed that defender Kieran Gibbs will be out for "a few weeks" after picking up a knee ligament injury on Wednesday.
The left-back was forced off after 18 minutes of Arsenal's League Cup tie at Newcastle United FC – which the Gunners won 4-0 to reach the quarter-finals – but the initial diagnosis is promising for the newly capped England international. "It is a medial knee ligament strain," said Wenger. "It needs to be checked on the scan but it will be a few weeks."
The 21-year-old has appeared once in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this term. The north London club's next European date is away to FC Shakhtar Donetsk on 3 November, when they can confirm their progress to the knockout stages by extending their 100% record into a fourth match.
