Twente and Bremen keep options open

FC Twente may have had more reason to be disappointed after letting a lead slip late on against SV Werder Bremen, but both sides were able to take positives from a 1-1 draw in Enschede that leaves their chances wide open in UEFA Champions League Group A ahead of the return in Germany on 2 November.

With leaders FC Internazionale Milano beating Tottenham Hotspur FC 4-3 in the other match in the section, the London side's lead over Twente and Bremen has been cut to two points with three games to play, giving both plenty of heart ahead of their meeting at the Weserstadion.

"There are still a lot of possibilities," Twente goalscorer Theo Janssen told UEFA.com. "Second place is a definite possibility. For the game in two weeks' time we will have to play as we did this evening with the emphasis on attack but we'll have to make fewer mistakes and then we definitely have a chance."

Janssen opened the scoring with 15 minutes to play when he stabbed in from close range after Bremen's substitute goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz, on for the injured Tim Wiese, had blocked his initial shot. Janssen had scored the only goal against Bremen in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 first leg last season and he looked to have won the game again only for Twente old boy Marko Arnautović to draw Thomas Schaaf's men level five minutes later.

"There are few keepers that could have stopped that shot," said Janssen, who was also on the scoresheet in the 2-2 draw with Inter on Matchday 1. "I'm really happy because I've already scored five this season. It was a bit of an untidy goal, when the ball was played to me it was a slightly in front of me and I could only just reach it, but when I got the rebound I made really good contact with it."

It was not enough, however, to clinch the points. Arnautović had the final say when he latched on to Claudio Pizarro's looping return pass before firing high into the net with ten minutes to play, leaving left-back Petri Pasanen pleased with the night's work.

"We will be happy with the point," Pasanen told UEFA.com. "They had the lead and we came back so that's a good result. We wanted to have more but we just have to take the three points when we play them in two weeks at home.

"We have to be more active [in the return] from the beginning. Last year we lost 1-0 here and in the return game we won 4-1 so I hope we do the same thing in two weeks. We're normally stronger at home. We're two points behind Tottenham at the moment so it's open still."
