Anthony Le Tallec will miss the next two months of AJ Auxerre's season after a right ankle injury suffered in training on Wednesday turned out to be more serious than first thought.
The 25-year-old striker, who joined the Burgundy club from Le Mans UC 72 in June, collided with Adama Coulibaly and though initial scans showed nothing serious, further tests in Paris revealed damaged ligaments. Le Tallec will have surgery on Tuesday in Lyon, the day Auxerre host Real Madrid CF in UEFA Champions League Group G.
The former Le Havre AC and Liverpool FC player is expected to miss his team's next four fixtures in Europe's premier club competition and up to eight Ligue 1 games. Auxerre are second bottom of the French top flight having not won in six matches this season.
