Broken arm robs FCK of Ottesen

Danish champions FC København are resigned to losing Icelandic international defender Sölvi Ottesen for the next five or six weeks after the 26-year-old cracked a bone in his arm during Sunday's 2-0 Superliga win against Brøndby IF.

The centre-back complained of a pain in his forearm after the match, with tests confirming that a bone was broken. "Unfortunately, there is not a lot we can do," said FCK doctor Morten Boesen. "Sölvi has broken his forearm and it usually takes five to six weeks for this kind of fracture to heal. We are working on a splint so Sölvi can maintain his fitness. When he can return to training depends on how soon the pain wears off."

Ottesen joined the Danish league leaders from SønderjyskE in the summer, and made a crucial impact, scoring the goal that helped FCK beat Rosenborg BK 1-0 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off. Having appeared in the 1-0 defeat of FC Rubin Kazan on Matchday 1, Ottesen will miss FCK's Group D game against Panathinaikos FC and most likely the double-header against FC Barcelona as well as Iceland's UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier against Portugal on 12 October.
