Denying the holders FC Internazionale Milano maximum points represented a decent result for debutants FC Twente, but coach Michel Preud'homme could not help but conclude that "there could have been more in it" for his side than a 2-2 Group A draw.
Michel Preud'homme, Twente coach
I told my players that there could have been more in it for us, and they had that feeling themselves too. When you are 2-1 up and the space opens up every now and then for you to hurt them, you hope for more but I congratulated them for their first points in the Champions League and for the performance they put in. As sportsmen you always hope to win but when you look at Inter, they always have the players to get them out of trouble.
Their two goals came because they found the right way to hurt us. Three points would have been a better result for us but we are still growing as a team, and when you start like this against the champions of Europe, that can only be a positive thing.
Rafael Benítez, Inter coach
The first half was very difficult, while we played better in the second and we were in control. Twente have three or four tall players in attack who can be very dangerous from set pieces. They often played long balls so they cut out our midfield. It was not easy, especially in the first half when they played with more intensity. [Diego] Milito did not score but he played very well, always helping out when Twente were in possession.
[Goran] Pandev twisted his knee; let's wait and see the tests to see how serious that is as it's impossible to say now. We haven't worked together for long so I'm pleased with the improvements I have seen so far, even though we have a long way to go.
